We Don’t Live Here Anymore

Italo Calvino said: The more enlightened our houses are, the more their walls ooze ghosts. Describe the ghosts that live in this house: Image credit: “love Don’t live here anymore…” – © 2009 Robb North – made available under Attribution 2.0 Generic

The walls resonate with their longing to leave. Dust and an unheard song. The house was small compared to the others. They lived there all their life. It was the only home they knew. It was only supposed to be a stop, but they had grown too comfortable.

It was a pain to find themselves having to leave. Just before sunrise, they would appear just before the house. The door was different, but it was the same house. It stood on the same spot on the same street. The surroundings were different, but it was the same house.

There was something truly odd. The tables are no longer where they used to be. The air was different. They were gone the moment they wanted to stay. I guess they haven’t completely left.
